Alabama Climate

Alabama climate can be simply described as warm temperate with very high humidity. There is a distinct difference between summer and winter months. While the summers are hot and humid, winter are cold and dry. However, recently the Alabama climate has undergone a slight change due to several environmental factors. Alabama has been greatly affected by global warming. This is the reason why Alabama climate is an important topic of interest amongst environmentalists and geologists. The weather of Alabama have become warmer than it was in the past.

Apart from certain exceptions, Alabama climate never reaches extremes. It is never too hot or too cold in Alabama. The climate of Alabama is mostly moderate with certain seasonal rise and fall in temperature. However tourists in Alabama must be prepared for sudden showers of rainfall during daytime. Hence, it is always important to carry rain-wear. Moreover, it is advisable for tourists to wear light cotton clothes in Alabama.

Temperature
Alabama's average annual temperature is 18º C or 64º F. The southern counties in Alabama have slightly warmer climate while the northern areas in Alabama are hilly and hence experience cooler climate. While July experiences the highest temperatures in the year, January is the coolest month of the year. This kind of temperature has helped in the growth of a mixed type of vegetation.

Rainfall
The annual rainfall in Alabama ranges between 40 inches to 70 inches annually. An important feature of Alabama climate in summer rainfall. Most of the summer rainfall is accompanied by tropical and thunderstorms. Alabama also experiences occasional extra-tropical winter storms. Some of the hurricanes in Alabama are influenced by the El Nino–La Nina cycle. Sometimes hurricanes can lead to flooding in Alabama. Under the influence of global warming the amount of rainfall in Alabama has increased . A significant rise in the sea-level around Alabama has also been noticed.
