The Alabama Shakespeare Festival puts up stage performances all throughout the year. The festival can be credited with 12 to 14 stage plays of international standards. Out of the 12 play, 3 to 4 plays are by William Shakespeare. The rest of the plays are by other dramatists who belonged to Shakespeare's age. One interesting feature of Alabama Shakespeare Festival is that, it also encourages modern dramatists and their works, as long as they work on themes of the Shakespearean age.
Apart from live performances, the Alabama Shakespeare Festival also organizes puppet shows, story telling sessions, international fashion shows and children activity programs. The Alabama Shakespeare Festival is not only a recreational mode, but is also an important means of promoting interests in theatrical arts.
The Alabama Shakespeare Festival not only puts up stage performances. It also operates the dramatic school to teach young talents the skills of the stage and to mold them in international standards. The school is called Professional Actor Training program. This school is affiliated with the University of Alabama Department of Theater and Dance and awards the students with a M.F.A. Degree. Michael Emerson and Norbert Leo Butz are two of the award winning stalwarts that belong to the alumni of this organization.
