Major Land Areas That Make Up Alabama Landscape

The various major land areas that make up Alabama landscape are described in brief below:

East Gulf Coastal Plain: This is an important landscape area of Alabama. This region covers the Florida Parishes, Mississippi, Tennessee and Kentucky. On the southern side this region extends towards the Gulf Of Mexico. The plain on the north extends towards the interior low plateau and the Appalachian.

The Piedmont Upland: The Piedmont Upland is an important part of the landscape of Alabama. The main features of the Piedmont upland is that it is marked by mountain ranges as well as rivers. There are low hills which are of 50 meters.

The Appalachian Ridge and Valley: This is also known as the Ridge and Valley Appalachians. Here you can find long as well as even ridges. The appearance is such that it looks like the English alphabet “V”. The two important mountain ranges here include Alleghenies and Cumberland.

Cumberland Plateau: The Cumberland plateau is also known as the Tennessee Valley as well. This plateau is further divided into various tablelands because of a large number of rivers operating there. The Tennessee River flows through this plateau. There are various mountains in this region which is an important feature of this plateau.

Highland Rim: This is located in the northern corner, still this Rim extends all the directions. Thus there are the Southern Rim, Northern highland Rim, Western Rim, and the Eastern Rim. This region is known for its perennial rivers.
