Alabama River is one of the major rivers of the State of Alabama. It is formed by the joining of two important rivers the Tallapoosa and the Coosa Rivers. These two rivers meet around six miles above the capital of Alabama, Montgomery. It is known that the course of the Alabama river is very meandering. According to the survey of United States Geological Survey, the length of the river is around 676kms.

The Cahaba River is also one of the major tributaries of the Alabama river. This river is around 200 miles in length and joins the Alabama river just 16kms below Selma.
The Coosa river which is also the main tributary of the Alabama River is navigable through boats. As it is navigable it is developed as a major waterway and the government is trying it best to further improve this navigation facility. The scenic beauty surrounding this river is excellent. The banks of the river is well maintained and a large number of tourists visit this place every year.
The Tallapoosa river which is also one of the important tributaries of Alabama river starts from Georgia. This river is 400km long and is also a navigable river.
The Alabama River has played a very important role in the development of the economy of the region. Since the 19th century this river has played a major role in the transportation of various goods.
