Talladega National Forest

Located in central Alabama, the Talladega National Forest is found at the southern tip of the Appalachians spreading over 375,000 acres of forest land. This forest has a very small natural reserve called the Cheaha Wilderness which is to be found in the Rebecca Mountain. Initially, this forest was considered to be a wasteland of Alabama and today it serves as one of the major eco-tourism in Alabama.

The Talladega National Forest is streamlined into two very prominent areas that are further divided into three ranger districts namely-:
  • Oakmulgee District which lies at the center of the state comprising broad ridges with stream terraces and flood plains.
  • The Shoal Creek and Talladega districts are located in the northern part of the state consisting of upland hills, low range mountains with steep slopes and dense greenery.

The Coleman Lake within the National Forest of Talladega provides a huge campground with provisions for picnicking, swimming and showers. Although there are no specific mountain bike trails in the national forest, there is certainly arrangements for some great riding. The roads are unmarked and graveled with iron gates locked on them. However, even though motor vehicles are not allowed inside the Talladega National Park, Bicycling, hiking, horse riding and trekking is certainly permissible.

Moreover, hunters can access the forest maps available with the management department and set out on their own for a hunting expedition. Visitors coming to the Talladega National Forest in Alabama come for the purpose of enjoying the sheer beauty and tranquility of the surrounding forest land. You will also come across a host of recreational and camping opportunities made available to the tourists

A major attraction of the Talladega National Forest of Alabama is the Pinhoti Trail which runs about 102 miles connecting Coleman Lake to the Pine Glen. Besides, you can also visit the Shoal Creek church situated close to the Pinhoti Trail. Talladega Alabama Forest is very conveniently accessible to the tourists visiting Alabama.
