All these mansions were constructed before the time when the economy of the state was destroyed due to the fierce Civil War of America. One of the most important mansion is the Jemison-Van de Graaff Mansion. Jemison-Van de Graaff Mansion was constructed between the years 1859-62. During the period of 1940s this place was purchased by J.P. and Nell Burchfield. From 1955 to 1979 the mansion functioned as the Friedman Public Library. When a new library at the Jack Warner Parkway was constructed, the this mansion became the home for two national publications, Antique Monthly and Horizon. Finally in the year 1991, this mansion was acquired by the Jemison-Van de Graaff Mansion Foundation and with spontaneous contribution from the general citizens, the process of carefully researching and restoring this beautiful and historic house to its original appearance was completed in a very harmonized way.
