Russell Cave National Monument in Bridgeport

The Russell Cave National Monument in Bridgeport is located in northeastern Alabama, United States. This Russel Cave monument of Bridgeport is considered to be the National Monument of United States and was constituted in the year 1961 on 11th May when the 310 acres of land was donated to the people of American by the National Geographical Society. Like many other parks and monuments, this Russell Cave National Monument in Bridgeport is maintained by the National Park Service and was enrolled in the National Register of Historic Places on 15th October 1966.

The Russel Cave Monument is precisely located on 98 county road near Bridgeport and is open to tourists and visitors all round the year barring New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas. Besides, the Russel Cave monument is accessible to the public between 8am to 4-30pm and the entrance to either the park or the cave is free to all.

Russel Cave Monument of Alabama offers a wide range of attractions to the tourists and some of the most noteworthy of these are-:
  • Gilbert H. Grosvenor Visitor Center where the visitors can stroll along the Museum and watch the displays of antiquities together with viewing the documentary films that essentially pertains to the living, culture and tradition of the prehistoric people. You can also make purchases from the gift shops and bookstores in the museum.
  • Cave Shelter that provides guided tours to the cave that was earlier occupied by the prehistoric people.
  • Russel Cave which is considered to be one of the most extensive cave systems in Alabama with over 7 miles of mapped and guided passageways.
