Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site

Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site is located at the Moton field in Tuskegee, Alabama was built in memorial of the African American airmen who fought in the World War II. The Moton Field was initially a training ground for pilots known as the Tuskegee Airmen. In 1941 it was constructed as an entirely new training base and was named after the principal of Tuskegee institute Robert Russa Moton.

The National Historic Tuskegee Airmen Site was founded on 6th November,1998 and the same very day it was registered in the National Register of Historic Places. The visitor's center of this historic site in Alabama is yet to complete its construction but the history project about the Tuskegee Airmen can be easily available to the public at the Library of Congress.

Tuskegee has many other important tourist attractions which are open to the tourists and the travelers coming from across the globe. Some of the other very crucial attractions in Tuskegee are-:

  • The annual George Washington Carver Arts and Craft Festival which was created in memory of Dr Carver's passion for art. This festival encourages such artistic representations like music, dancing, painting, sculpture and crafts
  • George Washington Carver Museum which displays an interpretative program, a books selling counter and two documentary films on George Washington Carver and Booker T. Washington which can be accessed without prior reservation. However, the films are only showed on special request and runs for about 30 minutes each.
  • The " Oaks, " Homer of Booker T. Washington
  • History Campus which comprises buildings constructed by Tuskegee students and designed by Robert R. Taylor who was also the first African American Graduate of MIT
